Our Mac mini M6 and M5 Pro arrived today, and we opened them up. Apple has dropped the removable SSD module. On both machines the NAND is soldered onto the logic board, as it was on the M1, M2 and M3.
No slot means nothing to swap, and very little room left for us. In August we said we would extend our coverage once we had tested real hardware. This is the result, and not the one we hoped for.
We will keep looking for an opening, but support for the M6 and M5 Pro now looks unlikely. If that changes, you will hear it here first.
- M4 or M4 Pro owners: nothing changes. Your modules stay fully supported.
- M6 or M5 Pro owners: please do not buy our modules. They will not fit.
