  • Mac mini M4 opening tools: Jimmy + Pryer
  • Set of 3 Screw drivers for Torx T3/T5/T8

Installation Guide

Upgrading your Mac mini with this SSD module requires careful preparation. Here are some key points to consider before starting:

  1. Opening the Device:
This process involves removing the Mac mini’s bottom cover with a metal prying tool. Please note that this may result in minor scratch marks on the bottom edge of the aluminum body, though these won’t be visible during normal use.
  2. Critical Data Backup:
BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE STARTING. Due to Apple’s security features, you won’t be able to recover data from your previous SSD once the new one is installed.
  3. System Revival Required:
After installation, you’ll need another macOS device (2015 or later, either Intel or Apple Silicon, including Hackintosh, or Windows PC running macOS on VMware) to complete the setup, as your Mac mini will enter DFU mode and require a firmware update.

I ordert de 2GB SDD end on the 28.2.25 I get it. Today on the 1.3.25 update my MacMini HW and SW with your 2GB SDD.
Thank you very much every thing had function perfekt, the speed of the new SDD is super faster then the 256MB Apple original.
Thank you additional for your stunning pro aktiv communication.

Finally received mine! Ordered January 30 and got it in the mail March 27.

The installation was very simple if you have any experience what so ever taking apart electronics. All tools needed are supplied in the package, a nice bonus.

Speed is good and everything is working fine right now. Had one issue initially where, after the initial restoration and installation of the os the Mac Mini suddenly wouldn’t boot anymore. Just a white flashing light on the device. Had to take everything back apart, re-seat the SSD and start from the beginning.

Maybe someone from Fyde could chime in but I have a feeling I hadn’t fully seated the SSD the first time, causing the error. Anyway, everything is working now and I’m, very happy!

I received my 2TB SSD and got to work installing it right away. I’m not sure if a suction cup is typically included in the package, but mine didn’t have one. The installation process was straightforward, but be extra careful with the Mac mini M4’s power button and fan. One wrong move could damage the connectors attached to the power button.

I didn’t use the included screwdriver since I had my own iFixit toolkit, which worked perfectly. I love that I no longer have to worry about backing up my iPhone, and the 2TB of storage is a massive upgrade from my previous 256GB.

I tested the read/write speeds, and they match the advertised performance, which is noticeably better than my old 256GB. Time will tell how it holds up in the long run, but for now, I’m very satisfied. Considering Apple’s steep price for a 2TB upgrade, this SSD feels like a fantastic choice.

The SSD module works perfectly and delivers noticeably higher read/write speeds compared to the original 256GB module.
The installation process was not too difficult, since all the necessary tools were included.
After the first DFU restore via iTunes, my Mac Mini was boot-looping (I think that I might have pressed on Revive Mac instead of Restore Mac by mistake).
Restoring the Mac via Apple Configurator, however, worked perfectly.
Therefore, my only minor complaint would be the installation guide on this page, which is kept very brief.
It doesn’t have to be a step-by-step guide, linking to other guides (e.g. iFixit or Apple Support) is totally fine, but having all relevant resources in one place would be nice.

Just received the 2TB SSD for my M4 Mac Mini. The upgrade was easy, following the ifixit instructions. It only took about 20 minutes and the software DFU OS install only took about 25 minutes. Aditionally, I had a Carbon Copy Clone backup as well to migrate my data. So far everything is working perfectly. System is fast and now has lots of storage! Thank you ExpandMacMini.com!!! I highly recommend ExpandMacMini.com to everyone with the base M4 Mac Mini. :)

I’m impressed! It’s working, very simple installation, just unscrew couple bolts and thats it

I didn’t manage to properly install macOS on windows(probably vmtools or something, because I had no internet) and my MacBook Pro 2014 not able to restore new os, but with my friend macbook I restored the os on new SSD
I advice to move important notes(such as to that port connects the cable), but overall very simple and usefull
    Apple Tax Avoided
    Thanks a lot

I highly recommend this upgrade product. Everything about how the parts are sourced, the quality of parts, the testing for integrity of each piece, and the information to support delivery and installation is top notch. That may make the price a bit higher than others, but I think it is worth it when it comes to making complex electronics reliable and delivering an excellent product. All in all, I’m very satisfied with this upgrade option. Thanks for “doing it right.”

I had a bit of a glitch in the OS installation — Everything worked as expected except Apple’s Safari browser was not working correctly. It launched really slowly and failed to do anything useable which I ultimately had to resort to discarding the entire OS volume and creating a new OS volume using Apple’s Disk Utility before reinstalling the OS and all my data. I thought it might be a sector corruption on the SSD, but reinstalling resolved the problem which apparently was only a software installation hiccup unrelated to the SSD hardware. So far, everything works as expected, although I would like to check the drive’s media integrity at the bit level.

NOTE: I used iFixit’s guide to install and I would recommend modifying their instructions to simply DON’T unplug any of the internal connectors, whether you are an expert or a Newby at electronic connectors. They just don’t need to be disconnected to get at the SSD module. Instead, just carefully move the connected parts aside enough to replace the SSD. There is pleny of space to do this and it lessens the risk of breaking the connectors. Just be sure when setting them aside that there is no stress on the cables and doesn’t pull on the connector. This only takes patience and attention which is cheaper than repairing a broken connector. Leaving all the connectors intact is also faster.

Package got lost and found at the beginning of the delivery. Second delivery took 10 days to get the SSD Module.
The replacement process ist straight forward. I have 4531mb/sec write speeds on 1 GB file.
100% units get tested in the Factory. Nice!
